Iceland | Travel Photography

At the end of May 2015, me, my wife, and my mother loaded up into a small motorhome and tackled the famous Ring Road in Iceland.  For 9 days, we drove the entire distance around the island.  Along the way, we encountered waterfalls, craters, glaciers, rain, snow, wind, sunshine (absolutely no darkness), thermal springs, lobster, beer, black sand beaches, skyr, and amazing people.  My wife & I love to travel, and this trip has been on our list for several years.  I started compiling points of interest on a Google map in 2012.  We tried unsuccessfully to get my mother to travel with us to Peru in 2011, but this time she agreed without hesitation.  We were so glad that she could join us, and I know she had an amazing time.  She also turned out to be our experienced motorhome driver.  Speaking of the motorhome, I wouldn't have done it any other way.  Having the freedom to move at your own pace and avoid check-ins and check-outs at hotels was a huge positive.  We had a great time shopping for groceries along the way, and preparing all of our own food.  Plus, it's good to get out of your comfort zone from time to time.

The landscapes along the way were some of the most incredible ones I have ever seen.  They seemed to completely transform every 50 miles or so.  Geological activity has really shaped the island, making an almost infinite amount of interesting places.  Some places looked like they could belong on Mars.

Thank you Iceland, for continuing to inspire our wanderlust.  We hope to be back some day.
