Travel | Caye Caulker, Belize

It seems this trip involved dodging natural disasters more than anything. Way off to our East was Hurricane Irma, churning towards Florida. To our West was Hurricane Katia, hovering in the Gulf. None of them looked like they would hit Belize so we got lucky there. However, our first night in Caye Caulker we were shaken awake by an Earthquake that originated in Mexico. I've experienced a slight shake before, but this one rattled our hotel room and I couldn't go back to sleep for awhile, thinking a tsunami was seconds away. Despite Nature's wrath around us, you would never perceive any kind of anxiety in Caye Caulker. There are a few things to do in Caye Caulker, and they all involve relaxing and going slow. We stayed at Weezie's, and awesome place with a private dock, access to kayaks and bikes and some amazing pools.  We cruised around the tiny island, sampled the fresh lobster, found the best happy hours, and met a few folks.  It was the perfect getaway from a busy life back home.  Unfortunately, we did have to cut the trip short by a day.  Our flight home was scheduled to arrive with Hurricane Irma over Atlanta, so we switched and came back a day earlier than planned.  Looking forward to the chance to return!
